Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation is the primary technique used today by chiropractors in treating the underlying conditions that have been determined to be the root cause of a patient’s physical pain. Spinal manipulation, also known as a spinal adjustment, or a chiropractic adjustment, is an attempt to correct the misalignment of the vertebral joints, what is also known as a vertebral subluxation. It is this vertebral subluxation, or vertebral joint misalignment, that serve as the foundation for chiropractic care, and for which spinal manipulation is the primary treatment.

SPINAL MANIPULATION TECHNIQUES

There are a number of spinal manipulation techniques and schools of adjustment practiced by chiropractors, with most using a combination of practices to reach the desired effect. At Reuters Chiropractic we apply foundational spinal manipulation techniques to treat our patients underlying conditions. Once a patient’s condition has been properly diagnosed, a treatment plan will be advised including one of a number of spinal manipulation techniques most appropriate to resolving noticeable vertebral subluxation and misalignments.

The effects of spinal manipulation have been shown to include:

  • Relief of musculoskeletal pain
  • Shortened time to recover from acute muscle pain
  • Increase in passive range of motion
  • Physiological effects on the central nervous system
